The Private Secretary's Diploma
Many more jobs are now described as being a "secretary" or an administrator than ever used to be in the past. As a result, it’s difficult to stand out as a trained and competent professional in the office. A way of doing it is through qualifications. The LCCI examinations board offer one called the Private Secretary’s Diploma (PSD). The Diploma brings together all of the knowledge and skills that the modern office professional needs to possess, and is a proof of wide competence at NVQ 3 or A level standard.
The Diploma comprises four subjects. All of these:
- English for Business Level 2 (Course 50),
- Business Administration Level 3 (Course 52), and
- Business Practice Level 3 (Course 54).
plus one of the following:
- Shorthand at a speed of 90/100 wpm (Course 40 or Course 143),
- Text Production Level 3 (Course 51), or
- Audio Transcription Level 3 (Course 53).
You can find out more about these courses on our secretarial and administration courses page.
You will find it helpful if you study English for Business first, and leave your option until last. You can take the exams one at a time, but you must pass them all within a 24 month period to be awarded the Diploma.
The PSD can be a stepping stone to entirely new careers. It gives you a grounding in management and business skills that is recognised by many professional bodies, and allows you to join IQPS, the UK's leading association for office professionals, so please consider it carefully as your next training.
